  1. He  was  the  most popular musician in
  2. his time.  Then he made a break and it
  3. seemed  that  a  great career is over.
  4. But  in 1992 he made a comeback, which
  5. proved  everyone  that  he  still  has
  6. something  to  show.   So  guys,  here
  7. comes an interview with

  16. SH:   Okay!   First  of  all the usual
  17. stuff.   Hey, Romeo, tell us your real
  18. name,  how  old are you, what are your
  19. hobbies, etc.,etc.  ?!?

  21. RK:    Well,  my  real  name  is  EIKE
  22. STEFFEN,  and  I  am 22 years old now.
  23. My  hobbies  are  ofcourse music!  I'm
  24. not  making music only on the Amiga, I
  25. am also playing guitar, bass, and with
  26. my  Synthesizer,  and that became more
  27. and  more  important for me during the
  28. last  time instead making music on the
  29. Amiga.

  31. SH:   For  how  long  are  you  making
  32. music,  or  how  long  are  you in the
  33. scene?
  34.  
  35. RK:   Huh,  in  the scene ...  Well, I
  36. also  made music  on the C64, but that
  37. was  some  time  ago, and I hadn't any
  38. contact  to  the  scene.   And  on the
  39. Amiga,  well,  I  think about 7 years.
  40. Yes, 7 years, since 1987!  But I'm not
  41. much   interested  in  the  so  called
  42. "Scene"...

  44. SH:  Have you been in any other groups
  45. before TRSI or Masque ???
  46.  
  47. RK:   Yes,  but  only for a very short
  48. time, in a Danish group called Jewels,
  49. that  was  at  the  beginning.   And I
  50. wasn't  very long in that group, and I
  51. have also never seen any member.  Then
  52. I joined RED SECTOR...

  54. SH:  Hm, it was very quite about Romeo
  55. Knight during the last years.  Can you
  56. tell me why ???

  58. RK:  Well,I was in the army, so that I
  59. couldn't  compose  very  much.   But I
  60. made some tunes nevertheless, but they
  61. simply did not get released.

  75. SH:  Hm, your musicstyle changed a lot
  76. in opposition to your old tunes.  When
  77. I  remember  tunes  like  "Rise up" or
  78. "Cream  of  the  Earth", and I compare
  79. them  to tunes like "Cosmic Dog II" or
  80. "Gonna be Infectious"...
  81. RK:   Well,  I  always  tried  not  to
  82. orientate,  like  many  others  do, on
  83. other  musicians  style  or to convert
  84. the  style  from the C64 to the Amiga.
  85. I  tried  to  make  some Pop- or Rock-
  86. music on the Amiga, and so I used more
  87. and  more  guitars  in  my last songs,
  88. becoz  that's  the  music I personally
  89. like.   I  would,  for  example, never
  90. compose  a  techno-tune, coz  I really
  91. don't like it!

  93. SH:   To  what  "real  music"  are you
  94. listening to?

  96. RK:   Well,  I'm  listening to diverse
  97. metal-groups,  but I don't have a real
  98. musicdirection. I    like     Sucidial
  99. Tendencies  for  example,  or  Depeche
  100. Mode, but in the past I heard much Hip
  101. Hop-music.    But  I  think  that  you
  102. probably  could  hear the influence of
  103. the  music,  in  some  of my rhytms or
  104. so...

  106. SH:  I have heard that you also made a
  107. tape???
  108.  
  109. RK:  Oh, Hm, I made about 8 or 9 songs
  110. with my synthesizer, just for fun, and
  111. not  for  any commercial reasons, more
  112. for  my  personal further development.
  113. I  only  copied some of these songs to
  114. some  of  my  friends, which wanted to
  115. have  some  of these songs, and that's
  116. all.

  118. SH:   Well,  many guys are saying that
  119. YOU  are  the  best musician on Amiga.
  120. What's your opinion about that ?
  121. RK:   Oh, well, I really wouldn't like
  122. to contradict here, but I think that's
  123. exaggerated,  becoz there are for sure
  124. other  musicians  which  are really of
  125. the same value.  And I wouldn't depend
  126. it  only  on the music, coz I made for
  127. sure also some bad songs.

  129. SH:   Hm,  what's your position to the
  130. so called Scene?
  131.  
  132. RK:   Hm,  most  of  the time I really
  133. don't  care about the scene, it's more
  134. important  for  me  that  I'm  working
  135. together  with  some people, which are
  136. really   doing   their  job,  and  not
  137. telling  me  to compose a song, and at
  138. the end nothing happens, and it's also
  139. important to have some fun with it!

  141. SH:  Yes, I really know what you mean!
  142. Well,  what's your opinion about other
  143. Amiga-musicians?   I'll  tell you some
  144. names  now,  and  please  tell me your
  145. opinion about them, okay ?

  147. RK:  That's quite difficult, coz, as I
  148. said  before,  I'm not much interested
  149. in  the  scene,  and I don't know much
  150. demos  or musicdisks, so I can't judge
  151. someone.   I probably heard some tunes
  152. of  these  guys,  but  I  really can't
  153. remember  which  song  was  from which
  154. musician,  and  for  sure I don't know
  155. much of their compositions ...

  157. SH:  Oh, too bad, so let's come to the
  158. next  question.   You have been at the
  159. Scoopex-Cebit  party  in  Hannover'93.
  160. What   was  your  opinion  about  this
  161. Party?

  163. RK:   Also  a  difficult  question for
  164. me, coz  that   was   the  first  real
  165. Copy-Party  which  I visited, so can't
  166. compare  it  with other Copy  parties!
  167. But  I was a bit angry that I won only
  168. the   second   prize   at  the  Music-
  169. competition!

  171. SH: Why did Masque leave TRSI???
  172.  
  173. RK:   That's  another  thing  where  I
  174. can't say you much about, coz I hadn't
  175. much  to  do  with  that.   That was a
  176. disagreement  between  Wayne  M.   and
  177. some  other  guys,  but just a typical
  178. scene-crap,  and  I  really don't care
  179. about  that,  coz  for  me  it's  only
  180. important that I know the people where
  181. I'm  working  with,  and  I also don't
  182. care,  under  which groupname my tunes
  183. get released.

  185. SH:  What are the future-projects from
  186. Masque?
  187.  
  188. RK:   Wayne  M.   wanted to code a new
  189. trackmo  for  the next WOC, but that's
  190. not 100 percent sure actually.

  192. SH:   If you would leave Masque, which
  193. group would you like to join?

  195. RK:  I really don't know, and I really
  196. don't  care.   It's  important  for me
  197. that  I  know  the people which are in
  198. this Group, and I think I would join a
  199. group  where  most  members would live
  200. near to me.  Anyway, I'm very unactive
  201. on Amiga now...
